How about your microscope?

Dirt.  Dust.  Lint from your clothes.  Shed skin cells.  Oils from your skin.  Makeup.  Mounting medium.  Immersion Oil.  Dried-out lubricants.  Fingerprints on optical elements.  It’s not easy being a microscope!

Clinical and pathology microscopes should be thoroughly inspected, cleaned and lubricated at least every six months, preferably quarterly.  General laboratory microscopes should be serviced once a year.

Regular maintenance is the single most important thing you can do for these fine optical instruments.  It’s the best insurance money can buy.

• Perform complete inspection, provide written inspection report.
• Clean all exterior surfaces of instrument and peripheral components.
• Inspect and clean all optical elements, including eyepieces, objectives, substage condenser elements, polarizers, analyzers and peripheral devices (mirrors, collector lenses, relay lenses, camera couplers, digital camera interfaces, etc.)
• Check and adjust parfocality (all microscopes) and parcentricity (polarization microscopes) as needed.
• Clean and lubricate stage, focusing mechanisms, bearing tracks and all sliding wear surfaces (dovetails, gliding stages, etc.)
• Clean, adjust and center illumination systems and epifluorescence systems as necessary.
• Optimize Köhler illumination (compound microscopes).
• Clean, center and parfocalize photo and video systems as needed.

Records and Accountability.

You’ll have documents to prove you’re looking after your instruments.  We provide:

• Dated service tags
• Written inspection reports
• Summary sheets that list makes and models, serial numbers, property tag numbers, current locations of instruments, status of latest inspections and repairs/service work performed.

These items are especially useful for our clinical customers, as the paperwork provides documentation for CAP and Joint Commission inspections.

Our service is based on flat rates.  Unless a component is broken or the instrument needs extra repair work, there are no additional charges.  We never charge extra for peripheral devices such as dual- or  multiple-viewing bridges; video or digital cameras; drawing tubes (camera lucidas); epifluorescence systems; fiber optic scramblers; or high-intensity mercury/xenon illumination systems.
